Marriage

St. Stephen’s offers wedding ceremonies in the Anglican tradition to heterosexual partners who are active, participating members of the Parish.

We lament that, at this time, we are not able to offer weddings for same-sex partners. This is due to restrictions placed upon local Anglican communities by the Bishop of Calgary. We pray for the day when we are free to celebrate equal marriage in the Diocese of Calgary and are actively working to make this a reality for the Anglican 2SLQBTQIA+ Community in Southern Alberta. If you are a trans or same-sex couple seeking to be married in the Anglican Church, please speak to our clergy to discuss marriage ceremony options. We are here to support and celebrate your partnership!

Marriage preparation is a requirement for marriage in any Anglican Church in Canada and can be arranged through the Calgary Counselling Centre or a local therapist. Following counselling, the couple meets with the clergy for 2-3 sessions to discuss their spiritual-religious lives, as well as any concerns, and to plan their wedding ceremony. Weddings are scheduled according to the availability of the sanctuary space and officiating clergy.

Please express your interest in this rite to our clergy.
