Mid morning on Friday, November 13th, 2020 St. Stephen’s leadership was advised that despite the Alberta Government guidance of faith based gatherings being limited to one-third capacity, the Diocese of Calgary and the Archbishop have requested the cancelation of all in-person worship until further notice out of an abundance of caution and care. There will be no in-person worship at St. Stephen’s until further notice to respect this direction from the Archbishop and the Diocese. St. Stephen’s will produce a live-stream and recorded service for Sunday, November 15th, 2020.
The leadership at St. Stephen’s Anglican Calgary is providing guidance on how we will manage and mitigate the local risk for acquiring COVID-19 at St. Stephen’s. Earlier this week, the government of Alberta implemented public health restrictions for mass gatherings to prevent the spread of COVID-19 which exempted places of worship, they however acknowledged that events of 50 or more with a vulnerable high-risk population, which includes many seniors and individuals with compromised immune systems, like we have at St. Stephen’s, should be cancelled. The Diocese of Calgary has suspended all public services effective Sunday, March 15, 2020 until Tuesday, March 31st, 2020.
In this time of stress and isolation, our faith community can be a place of strength, safety, and support. As responsible, faithful, and caring Christians, we must provide risk mitigation for our community at our Sunday worship services and for our critical staff during the week. The peace of Christ will reach you at home, in your place of self-quarantine, and through the constant prayers of our community for one another.
